Germany’s TUI Cruises confirmed early November that the company has ordered a second 2,500 passenger cruise ship from STX Finland.
The 99,300 GRT cruise ship will measure approximately 294 meters long by 36 meters wide.
The ship will have 1,250 staterooms, serve 2,500 passengers and have a crew of 1,000 persons. As with the first vessel, TUI says the newbuild will come equipped with a number of environmentally friendly features, with a particular emphasis on energy efficiency.
“We are extremely pleased that TUI Cruises confirmed the order of the sister ship for the magnificent Mein Schiff 3 cruise ship.
We have today reached this milestone of production start of the first ship after the well performed and intensive basic design phase.
After this production start, manning on this project will increase significantly during the coming months to reach the maximum level before summer next year,” says Jari Anttila, EVP and COO of STX Finland.
“After being just four years in the business and after successfully putting two ships on the market – Mein Schiff 1 and Mein Schiff 2 – we are proud to proceed with building our first new ship and that way continue the growth of our fleet”, says Richard J. Vogel,
CEO of TUI Cruises. “We have been extremely busy with the planning over the past two years, but now things are really starting to move.” Hamburg-based TUI Cruises was founded in April 2008 as a joint venture between Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. and TUI AG, and specializes in the German-speaking market.
The production of the second ship is expected to start in summer 2013 and it will be delivered from STX Finland’s Turku Shipyard in spring 2015. The company’s first newbuild, announced in November 2011, is scheduled to enter service in spring 2014.

UI 크루즈 선사, STX 핀란드에 두 번째 2천5백인승 여객선 발주
독일의 TUI 크루즈 선사는 지난 11월초 STX 핀란드 조선소에 두 번째 2천5백인승 크루즈선을 발주했다고 발표혔다.
99,33톤급의 이 크루즈선은 길이 294미터, 폭 36미터로 1,250개의 침실이 갖춰지며 승객 2천5백명, 승무원 1천명이 탑승하도록 설계되었다. 첫 번째 발주 선박과 함께 새로 주문한 이 선박도 에너지 효율성에 초점을 맞춰 몇 가지 친환경적 요소를 갖춘 선박이 될 것이라고 TUI측은 밝혔다.
STX 핀란드의 최고운영책임자인 자리 안틸라는 “Mein Shiff시리즈 3척의 크루즈선 중 두 번째 자매선을 발주하게 돼 무척 기쁩니다. 기초 디자인 단계를 철저하게 그리고 성공적으로 완료한 후 이제 첫 번째 선박의 생산을 시작하는 중요한 시점에 와있습니다.
생산 개시와 더불어 내년 여름 전까지는 업무를 최고 수준으로 끌어올리기 위해 적재적소에 생산 인원을 배치하는 작업이 앞으로 몇 달 동안 엄청 생길 것으로 보입니다.”고 소견을 말했다.
“이 사업을 시작한 지 겨우 4년 밖에 안 됐지만 Mein Shiff 시리즈 1과 2번 두 척은 벌써 발주가 되었죠. 첫 번째 선박은 건조에 들어갔고 지속적으로 선대를 늘리게 돼 뿌듯하게 생각합니다. 지난 2년 동안은 계획을 짜는 일에만 너무 몰두했는데 이제 사업이 본 궤도에 오르는 느낌을 받습니다.” TUI 크루즈선사의 CEO인 리차드 보겔의 언급이었다.
함부르그에 본사를 둔 TUI 크루즈 선사는 지난 2008년 4월 로얄 캐리비안 크루즈사와 TUI AG사가 합작으로 설립했으며 독일어권 시장을 집중적으로 파고들고 있다.
작년 11월 발주된 첫 번째 선박은 20014년 인도되어 서비스에 들어갈 예정이고 이번 발주된 두 번째 선박은 2013년 STX 핀란드의 Turku 조선소에서 건조를 시작해 2015년 봄에 인도된다.
