Mosolf Group continues to rely on Wilhelmshaven

JADEWESERPORT - decision on automotive handling is still pending

The investor opens a project office at the port.  In the medium term, a RoRo loading system for rolling cargo would be required.

The Mosolf Group confirms its plans to turn Wilhelmshaven into a hub for automotive logistics.  Yesterday, the Chairman of the Executive Board dr.  Jörg Mosolf opened an office, which will be used to drive the project "Automotive Handling" on and via the JadeWeserPort.

Already in May last year, Mosolf had expressed the interest of the group based in Kirchheim unter Teck (near Stuttgart) to establish a logistics center for the handling of cars in the freight traffic center (GVZ) of the JWP.  Required would be space for up to 50 000 cars.  In the medium term, a RoRo system would have to be established for loading rolling cargo onto ships.  As a study has shown, this would be technically possible at the Container Terminal Wilhelmshaven.

"The interest in the automotive industry in Wilhelmshaven is huge," said Mosolf yesterday in a conversation with the WZ.

The deep water port, with its good transport links and large available areas, gives the industry hope for a real competitive advantage.  In the political sphere, however, there are also reservations about the project. Car turnover in Lower Saxony is currently reserved for the ports of Emden and Cuxhaven.

With the opening of the project office in Wilhelmshaven, Mosolf underlines that his company is serious about a commitment in Wilhelmshaven.  One reason for this is probably the company's economic relations with China.

By the end of the year, Dr. Jörg Mosolf, should see whether the port operators at the JadeWeserPort can imagine a RoRo plant in the medium term.  For a while, you could find temporary solutions.

The Mosolf Group operates 38 technical and logistics centers in Germany and Europe, employs around 3,000 people and organizes a fleet of more than 1,000 vehicle transporters, 350 double-decker wagons and two RoRo inland vessels.

"The interest in the automotive industry at Wilhelmshaven is huge"

The loading of cars into containers, their export by rail or ship - for Dr. med.  Jörg Mosolf are the concrete goals for Wilhelmshaven.

The Mosolf Group, headquartered in Kirchheim unter Teck, Baden-Wuerttemberg, intends to develop the JadeWeserPort (JWP) for itself as a logistics location.  Yesterday was the first step.  The CEO Dr. Ing.  Jörg Mosolf and branch manager Jens Burmester opened a project office in the administration building Pacific 1.

The Mosolf Group is one of the leading automotive logistics companies in Europe.  From the point of view of Jörg Mosolf, the sea-going depth of the jade offers ideal conditions for the handling of automobiles.  This could be the basis for a port-based technology and logistics center of the group.  The global entrepreneur came to Wilhelmshaven through friendly contacts with Detthold Aden, the former CEO of the BLG Logistics Group.

When customers from shipping companies to freight forwarders, his project idea met with great interest, said Mosolf yesterday in the WZ conversation. By the end of the year, the conditions for land use and extension options will be clarified with JWP Marketinggesellschaft.

"Automobile logistics is an area-intensive business," says Mosolf, who intends to launch a RoRo terminal for loading and unloading rolling cargo at the JWP in the medium term.  A feasibility study had shown that this would be technically possible even at the existing container terminal.  In the JWP committees, however, the project is seen more as a component of a planned expansion of the container terminal.

Mosolf is not deterred by the uncertain perspectives.  Consider transitional solutions together.  On the one hand, a container shipping by car would be conceivable - for example, in exotic countries without RoRo terminals.  On the other hand, the goods traffic center at the JWP with its good rail connection would also be ideally suited for land-based car handling.  The Mosolf Group also has its own railway company.

Jörg Mosolf particularly focuses on sustainable business relations with China and Korea.  It would make sense to have a direct connection from Wilhelmshaven to the Polish Łódź from where automobiles can be transported in containers via the "New Silk Road" of the Chinese to Chengdu.  In the opposite direction, Wilhelmshaven would be the intersection between sea and rail connections to China.  A few weeks ago Mosolf signed the contracts with the Chinese about the autologistics between Lodz and Chendu.

However, the project office of the group should also take care of another topic: Here, the central sales office for the small truck "Tropos" for Northern Germany and Scandinavia will be established.  Tropos Motors Europe GmbH is a classic start-up company with roots in the USA.  There, the small, very flexible convertible vans was developed, which should have electrically driven depending on the model, a range of 80 or 180 kilometers.  "The vehicle is very quiet, clean and unbeatable in value for money," says Mosolf.  Production of the vehicle is scheduled to start in Herne in July.  Buyer target groups are above all municipalities and craftsmen, who act as service providers in urban centers.  If the "Tropos" develop into a bestseller, Wilhelmshaven could well become another production location, according to Mosolf.
