The Global Supply Chain Intelligence Report from BSI Supply Chain Solutions says that globally, over $23 billion (￡15 billion) was lost to cargo theft in 2014.The report is based on data from BSI’s Supply Chain Risk Exposure Evaluation Network (SCREEN), which measures 20 risk factors in 203 countries.Cargo shipments were heavily affected by a rapid growth in supply chain terrorism. In Europe, the Middle East and Africa, cargo disruption rates were stable, while in the Americas an increase in illegal drug introduction, spikes in thefts, terrorist plots and incidents, increased cargo disruption.

During CMA CGM Kerguelen’s maiden call at Port Klang Port Terminal in Malaysia, the terminal set up a unique arrangement of cranes to match the length of 398-meter vessel.So exactly how many cranes did it take to unload the vessel? Twelve. Twelve cranes were used simultaneously to unload the ship, which according to CMA CGM is a company record.CMA CGM Kerguelen was delivered to CMA CGM on March 21, 2015. Liner shipping service reliability across the three core East-West trades hit a five- month peak in March with an aggregate on-time performance of 64%, according to Carrier Performance Insight, the online schedule reliability tool provided by Drewry Supply Chain Advisors.The latest result represents an 8.5 percentage point gain over February and is the second best average (after October 2014) since the start of the new data series in May 2014.The improvement seen in March was the consequence of much improved services in the Asia-Europe trade and gradually easing congestion on the US West Coast
The study shows very large variations in design efficiency between the best and worst years for individual ship types. For instance, the best-designed bulkers built around 1990 were some 14% better than those built today. For tankers the best designs for new builds around 1988 were 10% better than those built today.The difference for container ships was far greater. Those built in 1985 were about 25% better than those built in 2013.
