The Port Of Pyeongtaek Reinforces Marketing Campaign For Their Hinterland

Gyeonggi Pyeongtaek Port Corporation(GPPC) held 'the presentation meeting to increase cargo traffic in the port of Pyeongtaek inviting CEOs of international logistics companies' at the Foreign Journalists' Club, the Press Center on 16th Mar.

Over 90 people including CEOs and executives of logistics firms attended this meeting. The details explained at this event were the current status of wharf facilities of the port, advantages of the hinterland which is a Free Trade Zone as well as its development plan, incentives for cargo attraction and support services regarding use of port.

Mr. Hong Chul Choi, the president of GPPC, carried out aggressive marketing campaign by reporting the benefits from the perspective of corporate management that could be acquired through use of Pyeongtaek port.

On the other hand, one of the staff from a freight forwarder of Dae-A Trans pointed out as follows "As the port of Pyeongtaek is located as a gateway to the metropolitan area, inland transport cost is a lot more economical than another ports. That's why logistics companies are responsive to marketing activity by Pyeongtaek port. Nevertheless, incentive for cargo attraction for port users doesn't seem to be contentable in proportion to the increase of traffic."

Mr. Choi responded "We always try to minimize the users' inconveniences and study on developing support services for them. This year's budget for the incentive has been drawn up by 1.1 billion Won, which is 100 million Won up from the previous year."

He continued "Along with our endeavor to catch enterprisers' requirements, we are also changing our viewpoint on the customers not as simple consumers but as partners with whom we should have the same sense of purpose."

A CEO of the enterprise that attended the meeting expressed his opinion "The last time I met with the port staff, I heard the merits of hinterland enough. Today I am convinced of their advantages."

Mr. Byung Do Moon, a CEO of KCTC, said "The port of Pyeongtaek seems to have become unbeatable in terms of handling vehicles exported and imported. I think cargo handling speed steadily goes up as a result of well established transportation network and hinterland infrastructure."

Meantime, many of the attendees proposed the installation of public logistics center to promote LCL(Less than a Container Load) cargo handling as well as an increase in the cargo attraction incentives and building support facilities for the port users.
