"Keep continuous innovation through global standard"

 

What do you think about Korea's aviation industry?

Korea has an excellent Incheon Int'l Airport. Apart from magnificent facilities, the airport provides high quality services enabling them to keep profitability and eminence.

Incheon airport accepted price cut of landing charges by 10% from 2008 until 2010 and if followed by further similar actions, Incheon Int'l Airport will be able to get remarkable competitiveness.

Whatever decision making is on including markdown of charges, construction and privatization of the airport, competitiveness of the nation should be primarily considered.


What would be required for further progress?

Korea's aviation industry has to continue innovation based on global standard. We highly appreciate the effort of Korean Airlines to adopt e-airway bill system in Korean market as part of e-freight scheme.

Incheon airport is playing a leading role in use of global standard technology by introducing self service system for baggage check, travel document check, boarding and baggage tracing for passengers' convenience. I think the biometric technology Incheon airport has introduced is really the world-class level.

IATA needs to co-operate with Incheon airport and other related parties in COF(Checkpoint of the Future), which is a next generation security check system.


Any additional requirement, if any ?

Global air transport industry has to decrease the amount of air carbon emission which accounts for 2% of man made carbon emission all over the world.

We plan to set out sequential objectives and go ahead with them. Firstly, fuel efficiency is to be improved by 1.5% annually until 2020. Secondly, net emission amount is to be limited through cargo-neutral growth from 2020 and final objective is to decrease net emission amount by the half of 2005 level until 2050.

The aviation industry is implementing a number of strategies to achieve these goals based on technology investment and efficient operation of infrastructure. One of the strategies is to find the way of doing through tuning in the global level.
